Rarely do you know exactly how old a piece of furniture is, unless there's a date stamped on the back or you have the original paperwork.
And trust me, when you pick something off someone's curb, as I did with the vintage vanity, it doesn't come with the original bill of sale.
But, this piece did come with a hidden clue!
After I sanded and stripped it, it wasn't until I set it on it's side that the clue popped out.
It's an old pamphlet for "Ayds Vitamin Candy Reducing Plan" - aka miracle weight loss pills!
I started doing some research online and quickly found out this advertisement has to be from before 1956.
Here's the what wikipedia told me:
"The Carlay Company later became a division of Campana Corporation of Batavia, Illinois. Then Campana bought Allied Laboratories of Kansas City in 1956"
So, sometime between 1946, when Carlay got a trademark, and 1956 when Carlay became Campana which then became Allied Laboratories, this little piece of paper was made.
I'm hoping that's a clue about the furniture, that maybe it's at least 50 years old. Either way, it was a fun clue to find!
Vanity reveal coming soon! Consider this your sneak peak of the color and hardware.
